About StenOH

A free practice tool for steno students

What StenOH Is

StenOH is a free browser-based practice tool for stenography students. It helps you practice letters, briefs, words, phrases, and sentences using flashcards, dictation, and speed drills.

The goal is simple: make it easier to drill steno theory concepts repeatedly while building accuracy and speed.

Who It’s For

StenOH was built primarily for students studying brief-focused steno theory systems. Many students working through Mark Kislingbury’s Magnum theory will find the practice format especially useful, but the tool can be used with any steno learning system.

How to Use It

The trainer works best alongside your steno writer and Plover:

  • Open Plover and display the Paper Tape.
  • Place StenOH on one side of your screen.
  • Write the prompt on your steno machine.
  • Compare your stroke in Paper Tape.
  • Reveal the expected answer.
  • Mark yourself correct or missed.

Your statistics are stored locally in your browser, so everyone who uses the site tracks their own progress independently.

Ongoing Development

This site is a personal project built by a student while learning theory. New practice content is added regularly as new chapters are studied.

Over time the goal is to build a large library of practice material that can help students reinforce theory concepts through repetition.

Disclaimer

StenOH is an independent project created for educational practice. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Mark Kislingbury or Magnum Steno.

References to Mark Kislingbury or Magnum theory are included only to help students understand the style of steno system the practice tool supports.
